COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas A&M's soccer team rode the momentum of three first-half goals by forward Nicky Thrasher to a 5-1 victory over Oklahoma State on Sunday afternoon before 1,729 fans at the Aggie Soccer Complex.
Thrasher got the Aggies (10-3-1 overall and 7-1-1 Big 12) on the board just 11 seconds into the contest after scooting a shot past Cowgirl goalkeeper Kat Doud from 10 yards out. The senior struck exactly eight minutes later, converting a pass from Andrea Starns to extend the lead to 2-0.
In the game's 10th minute, Thrasher completed her hat trick, scoring from six yards out after taking a pass from Kristen Strutz and dribbling past Doud.
The Cowgirls (7-9-1 and 2-6-1) got on the board at the 12:05 mark when sophomore forward Joanne Edwards put home a cross from freshman forward Jolene Schweitzer to cut the deficit to 3-1. The tally was the Liverpool, England, native's fifth of the season and fourth in Big 12 action.
Starns scored two minutes into the second half after heading in a feed from Strutz. Linsey Johnson recorded a goal off a header as well, finding the net on a Jodie Mitchell cross in the 71st minute to close out the game's scoring.
Texas A&M outshot OSU by a 34-3 margin and allowed only one shot on goal in the contest.
The Cowgirls will close out the regular season this Friday when they travel to Norman, Okla. to take on the Oklahoma Sooners at 7 p.m.
