Cowgirls are Second Best in the Big 12

NORMAN, Okla. - Oklahoma State's women's cross country team finished second behind tenth ranked Colorado in the Big 12 Cross Country Championships held in Norman, Okla. today on the Jimmie Austin Golf Course.
The Cowgirls finished behind Colorado who has spent much of the year ranked number one and are the defending national champions. They finished ahead of Texas, Kansas State, and Texas A&M.
Siri Alfheim was the Cowgirls top finisher. She finished second behind Molly Austin of Colorado and ahead of Amy Mortimer of Kansas State on the 6k course.
"I was very surprised that I was able to beat Mortimer because she won the last two races we were in. I also want to thank all the people who were cheering for us. It was great," senior Siri Alfheim said.
Valentina Medina spent the first half of the race in the lead pack, but faded and finished 13th. Marie Nilsson made a charge and finished eighth overall. Paula Gowing and Alexandra Lindquist rounded out the scoring for the Cowgirls by finishing 21st and 31st respectively.
"We did a pretty good job of being tough. We started out a little too fast, but I think everybody did a great job. We were really strong coming through the finish," Head Coach Catrina Acosta said.
This is the Cowgirls highest finish ever in the Big 12 Conference and will be back in action on November 10 for the Midwest Regionals in Carbondale, Ill.
