STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's women's soccer team won its third consecutive game on Wednesday night, defeating Northeastern State 5-0 before 587 fans at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex.
Despite outshooting the Lady Reds (3-7-0 overall) by a 15-2 count in the first half, the Cowgirls (7-5-0 overall) were held to a 1-0 advantage at the intermission.
Freshman Marcela Nova headed in a corner kick from freshman midfielder Nikki Wojtowicz at the 4:45 mark to provide the half's only tally. The goal was the first of the defender's career.
However, the Cowgirl offense exploded in the second half, scoring four goals on 18 shots.
Twenty minutes into the stanza, sophomore Kim Graves took a ball deep into the NSU box before playing it to Wojtowicz, who fired a shot on goal. Lady Red goalkeeper Tristan Smith deflected the shot but was unable to maintain possession, putting the ball on the foot of Graves who converted her fifth goal of the season.
Four minutes later, Wojtowicz registered her first goal of her career, weaving through the NSU defense and rocketing a shot past Smith to build the OSU lead to 3-0.
In the game's 82nd minute, Graves struck again. The Tulsa, Okla., native hooked a corner kick into the box that went untouched until it reached the back of the net and pushed the Cowgirl lead to four goals.
Sophomore Jere Boykin scored her second career goal and second in as many games on a play similar to Graves' just four minutes later. The reserve forward played a corner kick into the box that deflected off a Lady Red defender and into the net to close out the scoring.
Junior Kat Doud went the distance for OSU in goal and recorded her fourth shutout of the season.
The Cowgirls will return to action on Sunday when they travel to Baylor for a 1 p.m. contest.
