Cowgirls Prepare To Open Big 12 Play

The Week Ahead: Oklahoma State's soccer squad will open the conference portion of its 2000 slate on Friday when the Cowgirls host the Missouri Tigers at 7 p.m. The Cowgirls will then travel to Overland Park, Kansas to take on the Kansas Jayhawks at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
About Missouri: Missouri enters Friday's tilt with a 4-4 record. The Tigers own wins over Creighton, Florida State, Wake Forest and Virginia Tech. Mizzou's four losses have come against Purdue, Ohio State, Michigan and California. Leading the way for the Tigers will be All-American Nikki Thole. The senior forward is tied for the team lead with 11 points on four goals and three assists. Freshman forward Adriene Davis, a native of Edmond, Okla., has also tallied four goals and three assists. In goal, a pair of Tigers have seen significant action. Junior Graham Watson has started five games and has amassed 28 saves while giving up nine goals. Megan Duncan, a Tulsa native, has started two contests, logging 16 saves and surrendering eight goals. Missouri holds a 4-0-0 record all-time against the Cowgirls.
About Kansas: The Jayhawks also enter Big 12 action this weekend with a 4-4 ledger. The Crimson and Blue has posted wins against Northwestern, Creighton, Cal-State Fullerton and Southwest Missouri State. Last weekend, the Jayhawks fell to Mississippi, who defeated the Cowgirls on Sept. 1, in overtime. Kansas will take on the Oklahoma Sooners in Norman on Friday before hosting the Cowgirls. KU is led offensively by senior midfielder Meghann Haven, who has notched 10 points on four goals and two assists. Sophomore netminder Layla Young has logged the majority of time in goal for the Jayhawks, amassing 49 saves and giving up 16 goals. The all-time series between OSU and KU is knotted at 1-1-2.
Last Week: The Cowgirls suffered a pair of heartbreaking losses over the weekend in El Paso, Texas. OSU fell to the UTEP Miners on Thursday in overtime 2-1. OSU jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the game's 22nd minute on a goal by senior midfielder Mercy Morrical. With less than eight minutes remaining, the Miners countered to send the match into extra time. In the game's 93rd minute, UTEP netted the game winner to send the Cowgirls to their second consecutive overtime loss. On Saturday, OSU took on Eastern Washington, and for the third consecutive match the Cowgirls needed an extra period to decide the outcome. After a scoreless first half, the Eagles converted the game's first score at the 49:49 mark. Sophomore Kellie Williams netted the equalizer with less than three minutes remaining to send the match to extra time. However, the Eagles' Jamie Erickson countered with the game winner in the game's 97th minute.
Cowgirl Foot Notes: -Senior Midfielder Andi Lute continues her assault on the Cowgirl record book. The Edmond, Okla., native is first in career assists (23), points (45) and second in shots (105).
-Lute currently leads the team with four assists. She has finished as the team's assist leader each of the her three seasons in Stillwater.
-Sophomore goalkeeper Katharine Doud's 36 saves this season have put her over the 100-save mark for her career (107).
-The Cowgirls have competed in three consecutive overtime contests, two shy of the OSU record of five consecutive matches set in 1998.
