STILLWATER, Okla. -- Just like during the 1999 season, Oklahoma State's women's cross country team will have it's second season appearance at the SMU Cross Country Invitational. The Cowgirls are slated to run in the 9:00 race Saturday morning in Dallas, Texas.
Last year, the Cowgirls went into the meet looking to get a feel for the competition coming from other schools in the Big 12. This year, they set out with the same goal in mind.
"There are going to be a lot of teams from the southern portion of the conference there," said Head Coach Catrina Acosta. "We need to know who we can beat and this is going tell us."
The Cowgirls are going into the race with a big win two weeks ago at the University of Texas El Paso. OSU blew away the competition, winning the meet and capturing the individual title as well. Senior Sara Wells was the first runner across the finish line, completing the 2.9 mile circuit in 16:51. The team hopes to have similar success this weekend.
"October is approaching quickly and that is the time when we have to win. This weekend, we're going to have some real competition," Acosta said.
Following SMU, the Cowgirls' next appearance will be at the Sept. 30 Cowboy Jamboree, hosted by OSU.
