STILLWATER, Okla. - With the finishing touches being applied to Gallagher-Iba Arena, Oklahoma State wrestling will open the 2000-01 season with a home dual against the Missouri Tigers in Broken Arrow, Okla., on Nov. 16 at 7 p.m.
The Cowboys will then entertain the Iowa Hawkeyes on Dec. 2 in the newly remodeled Gallagher-Iba Arena at 2 p.m.
"It looks like we are going to be able to get into the new arena for Iowa on Dec. 2," said OSU head coach John Smith. "Iowa's coming back with four seniors and a lot of points from the national tournament. They are going to be a tough team to beat."
"With the size of this arena (13,611), it gives us a chance to set a new record for attendance here at Oklahoma State, which is pretty remarkable," said Smith, "there aren't very many records you can break around Oklahoma State wrestling."
Following the Christmas break, OSU begins the toughest stretch of its schedule with a road dual against the Minnesota Golden Gophers on Jan. 7 followed by a home match on Jan. 14 against Michigan State. The Pokes will be looking for revenge after the Spartans won their first-ever dual over the Cowboys last season in East Lansing.
The Cowboys will venture to University Park, Pa., for the National Duals on Jan. 20-21. On Jan. 26, OSU will look to avenge a loss from a year ago when they travel to Ames, Iowa, and take on Iowa State.
"It's a tough, tough road when you really look at this schedule >from Jan. 7 through Jan. 26," said Smith. "Minnesota, Michigan State, the National Duals and Iowa State, that's going to be a tough month for us. Then, as you get into February I feel like it lightens up a little bit, except for Oklahoma."
The Cowboys close out the regular season at home with the 141st edition of the Bedlam Series on Feb. 18 at 2 p.m.
The Big 12 Championships return to Stillwater in March as the Cornhuskers, Cowboys, Cyclones, Sooners and Tigers invade Gallagher-Iba Arena in search of the conference title.
Oklahoma State will then go in search of its 31st national title in Iowa City, Iowa, on March 15-17.
