STILLWATER, Okla. - All Oklahoma State University fans and alumni in the Tulsa area are invited to the inaugural OSU "Spirit Rally," set for Thursday, Sept. 7, downtown at Bartlett Square / Main Mall.
OSU Head Football Coach Bob Simmons, OSU-Tulsa President Gary Trennepohl and other OSU and athletics department personalities are scheduled to speak to the downtown lunchtime crowd. Dr. James Halligan, OSU president and chief executive officer, and Ron Area, president and CEO of the OSU Foundation, are also scheduled to appear. Pistol Pete and the OSU Spirit Squad will also be on hand. The rally, presented by the OSU Alumni Association, is scheduled to begin roughly at 11:30 a.m. and run to approximately 1 p.m.
Karen Keith of KJRH (NBC channel 2 in Tulsa) will emcee the event, along with OSU "super fan" Lee Redick. Fans are encouraged to wear orange or any OSU-spirited clothing and enjoy music, the featured speakers and drawings for prizes. Keith and Redick will also pick three "most spirited OSU fans" who will receive special prizes.
"There are more than 16,000 OSU alumni in Tulsa County - more than anywhere else in the country," said Chad Weiberg, senior director of OSU Alumni Association Programs. "Obviously, there is great OSU fan support in Tulsa, and this event is designed to get everyone here fired up about OSU Athletics and to encourage alumni to support and promote the OSU campuses in Stillwater and Tulsa," Weiberg said.
The OSU football team opens its 2000 season Saturday, Sept. 9, with a contest at intrastate rival Tulsa.
