Sloan reaches Olympic trials final

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Former Oklahoma State track and field star Chuck Sloan qualified Monday night for the steeplechase final at the U.S. Olympic Trials.
Sloan completed the 3,000-meter event in a time of 8:28.75, good for fourth in his heat. The top three finishers in each heat, plus the runners with the next five fastest times, qualified for Thursday's final. Sloan's time was first among the athletes not finishing in the top three of their heats.
The steeplechase final is scheduled to be run at 11:45 p.m. Thursday. The Olympic Trials began last weekend and run through Sunday.
