STILLWATER, Okla. - Charles Howell has been named the Rolex College Golfer of the Month for May.
It's yet another in a long list of honors for the NCAA champion, who this week has been named the winner of the Jack Nicklaus Award, the Golfstat Cup and first-team All-America status.
Howell fired an NCAA-record 23-under-par 265 (67-66-63-69), shattering the old record by six strokes. He led OSU to the team title by getting up and down on the 72nd hole to make par and send the tournament to a one-hole playoff, his par putt on the playoff hole clinched the title. The Cowboys, along with Georgia Tech, also set a new team record with a final score of 36-under-par 1,116.
Howell, who was also the Rolex College Golfer of the Month in October, won the individual title at The Maxwell earlier in the month. His Golfstat Cup honor signifies his nation-leading 69.57 stroke average, which is believed to be a national record. During the last four tournaments of the year, Howell's stroke average was 67.85.
