Charles Howell Named To U.S. Palmer Cup

OPELIKA, Ala. -- Oklahoma State men's golfer Charles Howell has been named to the United States' Palmer Cup team.
The Palmer Cup, presented by the Golf Coaches Association of America, is a Ryder Cup-style event featuring eight of the top men's collegiate golfers from the U.S. against their counterparts from Great Britain and Ireland.
Howell, who is here this week to compete Wednesday through Saturday in the NCAA Men's Golf Championship, will be joined on the U.S. team by Jonathan Byrd, John Engler and Lucas Glover of Clemson, Nick Cassini of Georgia, Jeff Klauk of Florida Southern, and Andy Miller of BYU.
The fourth annual Palmer Cup will take place Aug. 15-16 at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club-Hoylake in Hoylake, England. The coach of this year's U.S. team is Kansas coach Ross Randall. The team manager is Mark Simpson, coach at Colorado and GCAA president. The tournament director is Dr. P. Timothy Brown, head men's golf coach and athletics director at Skidmore College.
Howell and his OSU teammates tee off between noon and 1 p.m. CDT on Wednesday in their quest for the ninth NCAA men's golf title in school history.
