LOS CABOS, Mexico. -- Edward Loar survived a 54th-hole double-bogey to record a career-best score of 203 and win the U.S. Collegiate Championship's individual trophy Sunday.
The Cowboy senior, who entered Sunday's final round with a three-stroke lead, picked up the fifth tournament title of his career by finishing one stroke ahead of Northwestern's Luke Donald. His five career medalist honors tie for 10th in OSU history. For the second time this season -- and the second time in his career -- Loar completed a tournament with three straight rounds in the 60's, he sandwiched Saturday's 65 between first- and third-round 69's.
As a team, the Cowboys finished third at 9-under-par (855) while Georgia Tech ran away with the team title at 26-under. Clemson finished second, just three strokes ahead of OSU.
Individually, Anders Hultman was OSU's second-best finisher, carding a 1-over-par score of 217 to finish 21st. Charles Howell (24th, 218), J.C. DeLeon (41st, 225) and Landry Mahan (44th, 227) rounded out the Cowboys' lineup.
The U.S. Collegiate was OSU's final tournament before the Cowboys look to regain their league title at the Big 12 Championship on April 24 and 25.
