Baseball Falls To Oral Roberts 6-2

STILLWATER, Okla. -- Pinch hitter Stockton Davis' RBI single in the eighth inning scored Ryan Neill from second base with the game winning run as Oral Roberts defeated Oklahoma State 6-2 Wednesday night at Reynolds Stadium.
The Cowboys trailed 2-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh but came back to tie the game with sacrifice flies by Toby Rhodes and Darren Heal. Davis's single to right gave the Golden Eagles a 3-2 lead and it was extended to 4-2 when Billy Joe Richardson was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, scoring Trevor Leu from third.
The Golden Eagles put the game away with two more runs in the ninth and beat the Cowboys for the first time in six opportunties (5-4 in 1997). The two teams split the season series 1-1.
Steve Holm hit a two-run homer in the fifth off of Cowboy starter Josh Merrigan which broke a scoreless tie. The Golden Eagles added two insurance runs in the ninth when Ryan Neill stole home and Davis knocked in another run with a single to center.
Oral Roberts pitcher Mike Rose went the distance to improve to 7-2 on the year. He scattered six hits while striking out six and walking five.
Reliever Quenten Patterson was charged with the loss to drop to 0-1 on the year. He gave up two runs, one earned, in 1.1 innings of work with one strikeout.
Trevor Leu paced the Golden Eagles at the plate going 3-for-5 with two runs scored while Ryan Budde led OSU with a 2-for-4 night.
ORU improved to 31-12 while Oklahoma State fell to 27-18 with its fourth straight defeat. The Cowboys will be back in action against Purdue Thursday at 7 p.m. at Reynolds Stadium.
