Sloan Qualifies To Battle For Steeplechase National Championship

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Chuck Sloan, a senior on Oklahoma State's men's track team, will be competing for the 3,000-meter steeplechase national championships once again after his performance here Saturday at the Bank of Fayetteville Invitational.
Sloan won the event at this meet, completing the race in 8:42.37. He finished well ahead of his closest competitor, Joe Parks from Missouri Southern, who crossed the line in 8:50.36.
OSU's Ben Sigle finished the steeplechase with a time of 9:33.39, good enough for 11th place. Jerry Rainey and Trey Vernon finished 13th and 14th, respectively. Rainey ran the race in 9:40.86, while Vernon crossed the line in 9:47.61.
The Cowboys also took the two, three and four spots in the 5,000m run. Jon Cordes finished second in 15:25.94, and Ben Tickner was third with a time of 15:33.77. Gregory Rouault crossed the line in fourth in 15:48.31.
Next week the Cowboys will head to the Penn Relays in Philadelphia. The relays begin Friday and continue on through Saturday.
