STILLWATER, Okla. - Dave Huxtable, a 20-year coaching veteran on the defensive side of the ball, has been named linebackers coach at Oklahoma State. The announcement was made Thursday by OSU Head Coach Bob Simmons.
Huxtable comes to Oklahoma State from East Carolina where he coached the defensive line in 1999 and inside linebackers in 1998. Prior to his two seasons at East Carolina, Huxtable served as defensive coordinator at Georgia Tech and Western Kentucky.
"Dave has been a very successful coach at this level for a number of years," Coach Simmons said. "He has been part of winning programs at each stop during his career. He will bring a great deal of experience and knowledge of the game to our staff and I look forward to having him part of the OSU football family."
Last year at East Carolina, he coached a defense that was 10th in the NCAA in pass efficiency defense and 14th in the country in scoring defense. He also coordinated a punt return unit that ranked eighth in the country in 1999 and 11th nationally in 1998. He helped guide East Carolina to the Mobile Alabama Bowl.
He was on the staff at Georgia Tech from 1992 through 1997 as defensive coordinator, linebackers coach and special teams coordinator. The 1997 Georgia Tech squad won the Carquest Bowl.
In 1990 and 1991 he was special teams coordinator and linebackers coach at East Carolina. The 1991 East Carolina team won the Peach Bowl. Huxtable served at Western Kentucky from 1985 to 1989 and was defensive coordinator at that school in 1989.
He began his coaching career at East Aurora High School in Illinois in 1979 and was a graduate assistant at Iowa State in 1982 and 1983. He left Ames to become defensive coordinator at Independence Community College in Kansas in 1984.
Huxtable is a 1979 graduate of Eastern Illinois University. He and his wife Vicki have two children, Shea (12) and Jake (10).
