STILLWATER, Okla. - Chuck Sloan, a senior on Oklahoma State's men's track team, will participate in the 3,000-meter run at the NCAA Championships this weekend.
The championships are Friday and Saturday at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark. The 3,000m is scheduled for 7:40 p.m. Saturday. The top eight places qualify for All-America honors.
Although he only provisionally qualified for the event, Sloan currently has the fifth-best time in the NCAA at 7:59.84. South Alabama's David Kimani holds the top spot with a time of 7:55.12. Alabama's Tim Broe is second in 7:56.49, while Chris Dugan of N.C. State is third and Corey Smith is fourth with times of 7:58.49 and 7:59.32, respectively.
Sloan is only missing an individual indoor track All-America honor for his showcase. At the 1999 NCAA indoor meet, he was a member of the distance medley relay team that finished eighth to garner those honors. He just missed his individual indoor honor with a 14th-place finish in the 3,000m. He also has been named All-America in cross country and outdoor track. He has won the award twice in the 3,000m steeplechase.
The Cowboys will take a week off after the NCAA Championships before hosting the OSU Duals on March 25.
