Oklahoma State Pounds Missouri Southern 19-2

STILLWATER, Okla. -- Oklahoma State used a six-run third inning to overcome a 2-1 deficit and ran away with a 19-2 win over Missouri Southern Tuesday afternoon at Reynolds Stadium.
The Cowboys evened the season series after losing to the Lions last Tuesday by a 14-9 score.
Missouri Southern jumped on the board in the first inning when Jeremy Hatfield's sacrifice fly scored Joey Ballard from third and Justin Dudinsky later followed with a RBI groundout to give the Lions a 2-0 lead.
OSU scored a run in the bottom of the second when Michael Lorsbach scored on a balk by MSSC starter Jerrod Reineke.
Lorsbach, Roy York, Chad Hemphill, Rob Watson and Jimbo McAuliff all had RBI base hits in the Cowboy third which propelled the OSU offense the rest of the game.
Oklahoma State scored two runs in the fourth, four in the fifth and sixth innings and two more in the eighth to finish out the scoring.
Leading the Pokes offensive onslaught was Watson who finished the day 4-for-4 with two homers, a double, four runs scored and five RBIs. Lance Smith and Darren Heal each hit their first homers of the season as the Cowboys ended the day with 20 hits.
Clint Salisbury, who came on in relief of David Rollandini in the second, pitched four and two-thirds innings of shutout ball to move to 2-1 on the year.
Jerrod Reineke dropped to 1-2 with the loss after pitching four innings and giving up nine runs (eight earned) off of 10 hits while striking out five.
The Cowboys, winners of three straight, improved to 10-7 on the season while the Lions fell to 2-7.
Oklahoma State will be back in action this weekend when the team travels to Columbia, Mo. to take on Missouri in Big 12 play. The Tigers and Cowboys will open up the three game set Fri., Mar. 10, at 5 p.m.
