Baseball Drops Cal State-Northridge, 7-3

STILLWATER, Okla - Josh Merrigan pitched eight innings and struck out a career-high nine batters as Oklahoma State defeated Cal State-Northridge 7-3.
The Cowboys improved to 16-12 on the season and the Matadors fell to 12-20.
Merrigan gave up only three runs in the game and earned the win for the Cowboys, improving his record to 6-1. His eight-inning outing marked a career-high.
For the Matadors, Andy Davidson gave up five runs on four hits and struck out four Oklahoma State batters as he got the loss. Davidson is now 3-3 on the year.
Oklahoma State scored for the first time in the second inning when Luke Scott led off with a single and scored off of Ryan Budde's fielders choice. The Matadors then tied the game in the top of the third inning as Bobby Koba singled to center field and then scored off of Jason Watkins' sacrifice fly to right field.
Cal State-Northridge added two runs in the fourth inning off of Aaron McKenzie's home run to left field to make the score 3-1. The Cowboys added one run in the bottom of the inning to bring the score to 3-2.
The Cowboys scored three runs in the fifth inning as Roy York hit a three-run homer to left field to take the lead at 5-3. Oklahoma State added another two runs off of a pair of back to back singles by Carlos Gautreaux and Toby Rhodes to bring the score 7-3.
Oklahoma State will face the Matadors at 4 p.m. tomorrow at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium in the second game of the series.
