FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The Oklahoma State baseball team moved to 15-12 for the season with a 2-1 win over Arkansas at Baum Stadium in front of 2021 Tuesday night.
Junior left hander Matt Smith improved to 3-4 on the season, striking out nine Razorbacks while walking only two.
OSU's Carlos Gautreaux led off the game with a double, one of only three Cowboy hits all night, then scored after an infield single by Nebasett Brown and sacrifice fly by Luke Scott.
OSU added its second run in the second inning, getting a leadoff single >from Toby Rhodes, a fielder's choice, wild pitch and a throwing error on UA second baseman Brad Hagedorn.
UA (15-16) stranded 11 runners on base and got its lone run in the seventh after a Cowboy error - one of three in the game - a stolen base, infield single and ground out.
Smith combined with Quentin Patterson, Josh Merrigan and Rusty Rushing to allow seven Arkansas hits, while striking out 12. Rushing earned his fifth save of the season, striking out Kyle Washburn in the ninth inning with two runners on base.
The Cowboys return to action tonight when they host Arkansas-Little Rock for a single game at 6 p.m.
Freshman Mike Miller (0-0) is expected to get the start on the mound.
