Baseball Falls To Texas, 6-1

AUSTIN, Texas - Texas pitchers Beau Hale and Charlie Thames combined to limit Oklahoma State to three hits as the Longhorns defeated the Cowboys 6-1 in baseball action Saturday afternoon at Disch-Falk Field.
Texas won for the eighth straight time and captured the season series from the Cowboys after getting swept last season in Stillwater.
The Longhorns snapped Cowboy starter Frank Bludau's 14.1 scoreless innings streak in the first inning when Tommy Nicholson scored on a sacrifice bunt by Ben Emond to take a 1-0 lead.
Second baseman Rob Watson tied the game at 1-1 in the second with his sixth homer of the season.
The Longhorns added two runs in the third to take a 3-1 lead behind a RBI double by Nicholson and a RBI single by Todd West. UT scored another run in the fourth to extend the lead to 4-1. Texas finished the scoring with a run in the fifth and sixth innings to take a 6-1 advantage.
Bludau was charged with the loss to drop to 3-3 on the season. He gave up five runs off of six hits in 4.1 innings.
Beau Hale improved to 6-2 with the win. He pitched 7.1 innings, giving up just three hits while walking five and striking out four.
Texas is now 25-5 and 11-2 in Big 12 play while OSU dropped to 14-11 and 5-6 in conference action.
The teams will close out the series Sunday at 1 p.m. Lefthander Josh Merrigan will be on the mound for OSU while Texas' pitcher is yet to be determined.
