Jonzen, Sooter Earn Conference Recognition

STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State men's basketball players Fredrik Jonzen and Rodney Sooter were named the Academic All-Big 12 first team today.
Jonzen and Sooter made OSU one of only two league schools (Missouri was the other) with two first-team honorees. Ten Big 12 student-athletes were named to the Academic All-Big 12 first team, while two earned second-team recognition.
Jonzen, a sophomore native of Uppsala, Sweden, has played in all 27 OSU games, starting 14, and has averaged 8.3 points and 6.3 rebounds while pursuing a business major. Sooter, from Miami, Okla., has played in 11 OSU games as a senior and earned recognition for his classwork while majoring in business as well.
To qualify for academic all-league mention, student-athletes must maintain a 3.0 grade point average or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of his team's scheduled contests. First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.2 or better grade-point average, while the second team are those who have a 3.0 to 3.19 GPA. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are eligible.
13th-ranked Oklahoma State, 23-4 overall and 12-3 in Big 12 play, closes out its regular season -- and 62 years in Gallagher-Iba Arena under its current configuration -- when the Cowboys host Oklahoma on Saturday in an 8 p.m., ESPN-televised contest.
