OSU defeated Kansas for the first time since Feb. 6, 1995, snapping an
eight-game losing streak that lasted five years and one day.
OSU won by 33 points tonight, the previous school record for margin of
victory against Kansas was 21 points, set Feb. 23, 1953, in a 79-58
Stillwater victory. The Cowboys' 86 points are their most against the
Jayhawks since an 87-81 victory in Lawrence on Feb. 8, 1989.
Desmond Mason scored 31 points, matching the season high he set at
Washington on Dec. 21 and falling one point shy of his career high. Mason
set a career high with five three-pointers. In his past three games against
ranked teams, Mason has scored 26 (vs. No. 4 Auburn on March 13 in last
year's NCAA Tournament), 30 (vs. 14 Texas on Jan. 19) and 33 points. Mason
passed Sean Sutton and Corey Williams into fifth place in OSU history in
three-pointers made with 111. He also became just the sixth player in school
history to score 30 points four times in his career.
Joe Adkins scored 18 points, tying a season high set in the season
opener against Appalachian State. The 18 points are his most in a conference
game since he tallied 18 against KU last year in Lawrence. Tonight, Adkins
became OSU's 22nd 1,000-point scorer, he now has 1,013 points in his career.
Doug Gottlieb scored 12 points, his fourth double-figure scoring effort
this season and the 10th of his career. Gottlieb had not scored more than
four points in the six games since he had 13 at Baylor on Jan. 15.
OSU assumes sole possession of the Big 12 lead until the winner of
Wednesday's Iowa State-Missouri game regains a share of the top spot.
