STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's men's indoor track team hopes to rebound from its injuries as it travels back to Joplin, Mo., for the Fazoli's Missouri Southern Invitational II on Saturday.
The Cowboys, who are coming off a bye week, will face some tough competition at Missouri Southern.
"This is the first race where people are going to run fast," OSU coach Dick Weis said. "Arkansas will be there, and there will be a couple of qualifying times. We look to get a lot of PRs (personal records)."
Before the bye week, OSU competed in the Radio Shack Missouri Southern Invitational I. Senior Chuck Sloan won the 800-meter run, while sophomore Bruce Wright finished second in the 5,000m and newcomer Jason Woolhouse finished second in the mile.
This week, Chuck Sloan will compete in the mile, and Bruce Wright is shooting for a qualifying time in the 3,000-meter run. The Cowboy duo won their respective events at the Wildcat Invitational to start the season.
Both Derek Tate and Mike Cliff have been hampered by stress fractures in their feet but are coming back to compete in the meet.
"They've been training well, and we hope they will run fast," Weis said. "It looks promising. They're a young team, so we'll see how they do."
