Cowgirls Head To Big 12 Championships

STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's women's indoor track team will travel to Ames, Iowa, this weekend to compete in the 2000 Big 12 Indoor Championships. Iowa State University will host the meet.
The Cowgirls go into the conference championship meet with six athletes who have made the 1999-2000 Big 12 women's indoor track and field bests list.
Senior Natasha Santee and Freshman Cameko Tyner are both on the top-20 list in the Big 12 for the 200 Meter event. Santee's season best 24.86 was achieved on Feb. 5 at the Days Inn Invitational in Flagstaff, Ariz. Tyner's season best of 25.30 was achieved at the same meet as Santee's.
Junior Hanna Smedstad currently has the fourth best time in the Big 12 Conference in the 3,000 Meter event. She finished in 9:42.39 at the Feb. 11 Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark.
Juniors Sara Wells and Araceli Davila, both new transfers to the team, are among the top-20 Big 12 performers in the 5,000 Meter event. Wells' 17:26.40 finish at the Tyson Invitational allowed her to achieve this status. Davila finished in 17:59.52 at the same meet.
Junior Melinda Jackson has been dominating the long jump event in every Cowgirl appearance this season. She currently ranks fourth on the Big 12 bests list, due to her 19'8.25 (6.00m) jump at the Tyson Invitational meet.
The NCAA qualifications times for the above four events are listed below:
200 Meter - 23.70/24.25 (depends on the size of the track) 3,000 Meter - 9:24.00/9:42.00 5,000 Meter - 16:20.00/16:56.00 Long Jump - 6.34m/6.10m
The 2000 NCAA Indoor Championships will be held March 10-11 at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark.
