Baseball Cruises Past Kansas State, 15-4

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Roy York?s three-run homer in the first inning sparked Oklahoma State to a 15-4 win over Kansas State Friday afternoon at the San Diego Classic Tournament.
Ryan Budde?s RBI single and York?s home run gave OSU a 4-0 lead after the first inning which proved to be all Cowboy hurler Matt Smith would need.
Smith pitched six innings and gave up two runs, one earned while striking out five. The junior southpaw picked up his first win of the season and first since Apr. 21 of last season against North Carolina State.
The Wildcats scored a run in the second and third innings to cut the Oklahoma State lead to 4-2 before the Pokes responded with two runs of their own in the third to extend the margin to four. York and Nebasset Brown had RBI singles to account for the two runs.
OSU broke the game open with a five-run fifth to take an 11-2 lead. Budde and York both had RBI singles in the inning while Brown capped it off with a two-RBI triple.
Curt Anthony hit a three-run homer in the sixth to give OSU a 14-2 lead.
Kansas State scored two runs in the seventh off a sacrifice RBI by Kasey Weishaar and a RBI double by first baseman Mark English which cut the lead to 14-4.
Roy York led the Pokes at the plate going 4-for-5 with a double, a homer, three runs scored and five RBIs. Catcher Ryan Budde also fared well at the plate with a 3-for-4 afternoon with three runs scored and two RBIs.
Oklahoma State improved to 5-3 on the season while Kansas State dropped to 2-3. The Cowboys will be back in action Saturday at 4 p.m. CST when they take on Indiana in the third game of the San Diego Classic. Scheduled to be on the mound for the Pokes is junior righthander Frank Bludau.
