STILLWATER, Okla. - Sophomore offensive tackle Kyle Eaton was named a second-team Verizon Academic All-American due to his perfect 4.0 grade point average in management information systems.
Eaton, who has started all 11 games this season for the Cowboys at left tackle, was selected to the team by a vote of sports information directors from across the country.
The Rogers, Texas, native was one of only three players to be named to the team with 4.0 GPA's along with running back Ryan Johnson (Exercise Physiology) of Montana State and linebacker Adam Waugh (Political Science) of Illinois State, both first team selections.
He is the eighth Cowboy to earn Academic All-American plaudits and first since tailback Nathan Simmons received the honor in 1997 and 1998.
Eaton was also one of three Big 12 players to earn the honor along with defensive back Jon McGraw of Kansas State and defensive lineman Kyle Vanden Bosch of Nebraska.
