Stillwater, Okla. -- Junior catcher Ryan Budde was named a third-team preseason All-American according to the most recent issue of Collegiate Baseball magazine.
Budde, a two-year starter behind the plate for the Cowboys, is considered by many professional baseball as a high draft pick in the 2001 amateur draft. The Midwest City, Okla., native batted .291 with nine homers and 48 RBIs last season and earned honorable mention All-Big 12 plaudits. He was also on the Johnny Bench Award watch list which honors the best collegiate catcher in the country. Budde was one of two catchers on the 2000 USA baseball national team which toured the world last summer.
Collegiate Baseball also came out with its preseason baseball poll with Oklahoma State ranked 35th in the country.
Other Big 12 schools in the Top 40 ranking include Nebraska (4), Oklahoma (15), Baylor (17), Texas (26) and Texas A&M (34).
Georgia Tech which returns all nine position player starters from last year's 50-16 squad is the preseason No. 1 pick.
Oklahoma State opens its 2001 campaign on Feb. 2 against UC-Riverside in Yuma, Ariz.
