HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. -- Anders Hultman capped a fantastic weekend with a final-round 63 and won the Rolex/Golf World/Palmetto Dunes Collegiate Invitational on Sunday, setting the OSU 54-hole scoring record in the process.
Hultman tied the school's single-round record with his 9-under-par 63 Sunday and finished at 19-under 195 for the tournament, shattering the school scoring record of 199 set by Lindy Miller in fall 1976 and spring 1978. His 63 was just enough to hold off Georgia Tech's Bryce Molder, who shot 60 Sunday and finished one stroke behind Hultman.
Hultman's performance helped OSU finish third in the tournament, continuing the Cowboys' steady improvement throughout the fall. In their first three tournaments, the Cowboys finished 12th, ninth and fourth in succession before winding up third at 30-under-par, 12 strokes behind tourney champion Georgia, at Palmetto Dunes.
Par Nilsson (24th at 4-under for the tournament), Matt McQuillan (42nd at even par), J.C. DeLeon (59th, 4-over) and Pete Stone (64th, 5-over) rounded out the OSU lineup. The Palmetto Dunes event closes out OSU's fall season. The Cowboys will next be in action Feb. 21-23 in the John Burns Intercollegiate in Honolulu, Hawaii.
