OSU Wrestlers Claim Four Titles At Oklahoma Open

STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State wrestling claimed four titles today at the Oklahoma Open in Norman.
Johnny Thompson (133), Chris Pendleton (165), Tyrone Lewis (174) and Daniel Cormier (184) won their respective weight classes. While six of OSUs starters, Charles Walker (133), Jerrod Sanders (141), Reggie Wright (149), Shane Roller (157), Ty Wilcox (165) and Mark Muoz, did not wrestle.
At 133 pounds, redshirt freshman Johnny Thompson used a 3-0 decision of OUs Witt Durden to claim the title. Thompson won five matches on his way to the title.
The Cowboys true freshman Chris Pendleton, wrestling unattached, won the 165-pound weight class with a 6-3 decision of OSU junior Tony Gansen. Pendleton tallied a fall, technical fall and major decision on the day. Redshirt freshman Tyrone Lewis stormed to the title at 174 pounds. He racked up three falls, and pinned his way to the finals. In the finals, he won a 15-7 decision over OUs Michael Barger.
Daniel Cormier saw his first action of the season in route to the title at 184 pounds. Cormier recorded a 22-7 technical fall in the finals over Gerald Harris.
In the battle for the starting spot at 285 pounds, James Huml and D.J. Radnovich both lost early on, but faced each other in the consolations with Huml pulling out a 3-1 win. Huml finished third, pinning OUs Gary Barber in 3:35.
The Cowboys return to action against top-ranked Iowa at 1 p.m. on Dec. 2 at the Myraid in Oklahoma City.
