Cowgirl Harriers Place Seventh At NCAA Midwest Regional Meet

STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's women's cross country team placed seventh in today's NCAA Midwest Regional meet in Waterloo, Iowa.
Senior Sara Wells was the first harrier across the line for the Cowgirls in the 6K race, placing fifth with a time of 20:56. Sophomore Alexandra Lindquist was right on Wells' heels. She finished in 21:01, good enough for a sixth place finish. Senior Araceli Davila was next, placing 23rd in 21:37. Freshman Ami Butler's 22:46 time gave her a 71st place finish. Freshman Marie Nilsson cinched the seventh place team finish for OSU. She placed 82 with a time of 22:56.
In order for the Cowgirls to automatically receive a spot to run in the NCAA National Championship meet, they had to place among the top two teams today.
There is a chance that the team may receive one of the 13 wild cards that the NCAA issues to deserving teams. The Cowgirls received one of these wild cards in 1998, and ended up placing 22nd at nationals. This was the last time that the team competed in the national championship meet.
If the team does not compete on November 20, then today marked the end of cross country season for OSU.
