STILLWATER, Okla. -- Three Cowgirl harriers received recognition from the conference for their academic performance.
Senior Sara Wells and Sophomore Alexandra Lindquist were named to the first team of the Cross Country Academic All-Big 12 Team. Sophomore Shavon Young was named a member of the second team.
Wells, a psychology major from Salina, Kan., was recognized for her 3.78 GPA. She is the top performer for the women's cross country team. Wells has two individual titles so far this season, and a Big 12 Runner of the Week award. She has also led the Cowgirls to two team titles as well.
Lindquist, an international business major from Rudbecksskolan, Sweden, has a 3.75 GPA. She has consistently been a strong finisher for the Cowgirls, including placing fifth in the 1998 Big 12 Cross Country Championships. Following that race, she was awarded with Big 12 Newcomer of the Year honors. This season, she continuously runs on Wells' heels, finishing second for the Cowgirls.
Young, an undecided major from Guthrie, Okla., has been a member of the cross country team for the past two seasons. She is a strong runner who also performs well in the classroom, which is exhibited by her 3.17 GPA.
For an athlete to be named to the Women's Cross Country First Team, she must have achieved a 3.20 GPA either cumulative or for the past two semesters. The athlete also must have participated in 60 percent of the team's scheduled meets. The Women's Cross Country Second Team has the same rules, except that the athlete must have achieved a 3.00 to a 3.19 GPA.
The Cowgirls' next performance is on Oct. 28 at the 2000 Big 12 Cross Country Championships in Boulder, Colo.
