STILLWATER, Okla. -- The Black squad defeated the Orange team 8-7 in the final intrasquad scrimmage of Oklahoma State's fall practice season Saturday afternoon at Reynolds Stadium.
The Black team jumped out to an 8-1 lead after six innings behind the three RBI performance of junior Jake Bollig (Moore, Okla./Connors JC) and the solid pitching of staff ace Josh Merrigan. Bollig finished the day 2-for-5 with three RBIs while Merrigan threw four innings of two-hit ball with four strikeouts.
The Orange team's lone run off of Merrigan came via a solo homer by sophomore shortstop Brian Kraft (Gainesville, Fla./Florida State Univ.) in the third inning. Junior hurler Justin Meccage took the loss for the Orange team, giving up three runs on five hits in three innings of work.
The Orange club rallied for six runs in the last three innings, but fell short of tying the game in the top of the ninth. Rightfielder Jimbo McAuliff, first baseman Zac Cazelle (Stillwater, Okla./Centenary), leftfielder Ted Ledbetter (Oklahoma City, Okla./Univ. of Kansas) and designated hitter Eric Scheidt paced the team with two hits apiece.
Ryan Budde led the Black team with three hits while Bollig and junior first baseman Ali Modami (Phoenix, Ariz./Scottsdale CC) chipped in with two hits each.
