STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's baseball recruiting class for the 2001 season was ranked No. 10 in the country according to this week's edition of Collegiate Baseball.
The Cowboys hauled in 24 new players, which included 12 freshmen, eight junior college transfers and three four-year school transfers. Zac Cazzelle, who was on the OSU basketball team for two seasons, is the other new addition.
OSU had the second-best recruiting class of Big 12 schools as only Texas finished ahead of the Cowboys with the fifth-best class in the country. Other Big 12 schools in the top 30 include Texas Tech (No. 13), Texas A&M (No. 16) and Oklahoma (No. 17).
"I think we brought in an great class that would have been outstanding if we had not lost four players to the pros," stated Oklahoma State head coach Tom Holliday.
The four players the Cowboys lost were juco pitcher Brandon Lyon (Division I National Junior College Player of the Year- signed with Toronto), high school pitcher David Beigh (2nd round pick of Pittsburgh), high school catcher Tommy Arko (3rd round pick of Baltimore) and high school shortstop Scott Threinen (11th round pick of Cleveland).
