OSU Coach John Smith
On Oklahoma State's performance
"The team looked a little more aggressive tonight. I know Lee Roy is
obviously disappointed. He didn't have his full team. It will probably be
down the road for him when he gets all the pieces back together."
"Billy Gable is a 157-pounder, and he is trying to wrestle at 165 and 174 pounds for us. It lifts the spirit of the whole team when they see someone wrestle hard like Billy did."
On Ty Wilcox's 5-3 upset
"He wrestled a good, smart match. He wrestled hard. I think the key was the
fact that he went out in the first period, and made things happen. He got
the takedown late off of a defensive maneuver. His first minute of the match
was very important for him. He started aggressive and I think it really set
the tone for the match."
OSU 165-pounder Ty Wilcox
On his upset victory
"I've wrestled him twice this year already. The last time we wrestled a few
calls didn't go my way, so I decided not to leave the match in the referee's
hands. That's what I did last time, and he (Blackford) got his hand raised.
This time I didn't leave it in his hands, and I got my hands raised."
"I'm real comfortable in scrambling situations. Only one guy has ever out scrambled me, and that was Shawn Smith last year. The most important part is that I don't panic in those situations. Those guys that panic give up points. I won't panic, and that's why I always end up on top."
Arizona State Lee Roy Smith
"They had a lot more fire and intensity. All ten matches they took it to us. They were rewarded for that. It is difficult to come into this state and take on these two teams (OSU and OU) without two of your starters. I think that plagued our team a bit.
"We need to rebound and do it quickly. The road doesn't get any lighter tomorrow. We take a whipping and we learn from it."
On returning to Oklahoma
"You don't want to come back when you have two of your best wrestlers out of
the lineup. It just snowballed. We have been on the road for a while. We
haven't been home since November. We will be a team that will rebound and we
will be back. I think if we can get our people healthy we can surprise some
people."
