OSU Wrestling Releases 1999-2000 Schedule

STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State wrestling released its 1999-2000 schedule today featuring top-ranked non-conference foes Arizona State, Iowa, Michigan State, Minnesota and Penn State, as well as tough Big 12 action.
OSU will also welcome Big 12 Conference opponents Iowa State and archrival Oklahoma to Gallagher-Iba Arena. The Cowboys will also visit Missouri, Nebraska and Oklahoma in dual action.
"We're in a position where with only five teams in the Big 12, we have to go outside to pick up matches," said head coach John Smith. "A lot of that comes from the Big 10 with Iowa, Michigan State, Minnesota and Penn State. That's four quality teams from the Big 10."
Two tournaments dot the 1999-2000 schedule when OSU travels to Prim, Nev., on Dec. 3-4 for the Las Vegas Tournament and Reno, Nev., on Dec. 19 for the Reno Duals.
"We're not looking for people we know we can slaughter. We're looking for good challenges that will test us and let us know individually the areas we need to work on. The schedule has tournaments that we participate in this year that we didn't last year and that may have hurt us," said Smith.
The Pokes will open the season on Nov. 18 in Columbia, Mo., at 7 p.m. against the Missouri Tigers. They will then return home on Nov. 30 for the 135th renewal of Bedlam Wrestling at 7 p.m.
The Cowboys will open the new millennium with a three-match home stand. Penn State comes to town on Friday, Jan. 7 for a 7 p.m. dual. The following Sunday, Jan. 9, OSU will host Minnesota at 2 p.m. Arizona State wraps up the home stand on Jan. 14 at 7 p.m.
Oklahoma State will defend its National Duals Championship on Jan. 22-23 in University Park, Pa.
Two Iowa teams are next on the schedule for the Cowboys when Iowa State ventures to Stillwater for a 7 p.m. dual on Jan. 28. The Cowboys will then travel north and take on five-time defending national champion Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa, at 7:30 p.m.
Northern Iowa rounds out the home portion of the 1999-2000 schedule on Feb. 11 at 7 p.m. A visit to Norman is next on the slate for OSU as the Cowboys take on the Sooners in a 3 p.m. tilt on Feb. 13.
OSU closes the regular season on Feb. 20 in East Lansing, Mich. against Michigan State.
Lincoln and the University of Nebraska are this year's host of the Big 12 Tournament, which will take place on March 4.
St. Louis will be the site of this year's NCAA Championship where the Cowboys will be going for their 31st national championship on March 16-18.
