STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State will open the month of October with a pair of home contests against LSU and Colorado this weekend. The Cowgirls will face the Tigers Friday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. at the Corral before taking on Big 12 foe Colorado on Sunday, Oct. 3 at 1 p.m. These two games begin a stretch of six home contests in eight games.
Last Week for OSU: The Cowgirls (2-8, 1-2 Big 12) ended the month of September the way they opened it, with a win. OSU lost to Denver 2-0 last Friday before rebounding to defeat Oklahoma 1-0 on Tuesday in Norman (OSU opened September with a 5-0 win over South Alabama). Andrea Larsen scored the lone goal in the Bedlam match off a ricocheted shot by Andi Lute which had hit the crossbar. The Cowgirls moved to 4-0 all-time in the series and snapped a six-game losing streak in the process.
About LSU: LSU is 4-7 on the year after falling to South Carolina 8-1 last Sunday. The Tigers have dropped four straight contests heading into Friday's contest and are coming off an 8-11-2 season in 1998. Freshman Leigh McGovern leads the squad with four goals and an assist in 11 games this year. Head coach Greg Boggs is in his third year at LSU and has posted a 12-36-2 ledger in that span. Friday's match will be the first meeting in soccer between the two schools.
About Colorado: Colorado is 7-3 overall and 1-1 in the Big 12 conference entering a Wednesday afternoon match against Denver University. The Buffaloes are led in scoring by junior Melissa Cartmell's six goals and two assists (14 points). Austin Daniels is 24-37-4 in three seasons as the skipper of the women's soccer program at Colorado and led the Buffs to a 5-12-3 mark in 1998. The series between OSU and CU is deadlocked at 1-1-1 after a 1-1 tie last season in Boulder.
