PORTLAND, Ore. - The University of Washington shutout Oklahoma State 3-0 to win the Adidas Invitational Sunday afternoon in Portland.
The Huskies went 2-0 in the tournament while the University of Portland, the tourney host, and San Jose State went 1-1 respectively.
The Husky defense allowed only four shots and goalkeeper Leslie Weeks notched the shutout for the win. Caroline Putz, Megan McKinstry and Tami Bennett each scored for Washington. Putz scored in the 22nd minute from five yards out, taking a crisp pass from Anna Biddle.
In the 48th minute, McKinstry blasted a shot from 20-yards out past OSU keeper Laurel Catlett-King. Bennett completed the scoring in the 83rd minute on a whirling 19-yard blast.
Washington outshot OSU 21-4, and had a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.
Oklahoma State dropped to 1-7 with the loss while Washington improved to 2-3. The Cowgirls will be back in action this weekend when they host the University of Denver Friday, Sept. 24, at 7 p.m. at the OSU Soccer Complex.
