PORTLAND, Ore. - Forward Vanessa Talbott scored two goals in the first three minutes of play to lead Portland to a 9-0 win over Oklahoma State Saturday afternoon at the Adidas/MetLife Invitational in Portland.
Talbott opened the scoring in the second minute with a volley over OSU keeper Katharine Doud, after collecting a short cross from Kylee Barton. Less than two minutes later, Erin Misaki and Barton combined on perfect passes to set Talbott up again, this time for an easy tap-in score.
Five minutes before halftime, Emily Patterson collected a Misaki through pass and blasted a goal past Doud, and 50 seconds later, Talbott got her third goal on a pass from Patterson.
Portland, which held a 24-1 shot advantage, then picked up a pair of goals from Pardis Ariazand, taking solid passes from Brooke O'Hanley and Angela Harrison to notch her first career goals.
In the 68th minute, Betsy Barr scored unassisted, then Oklahoma State failed to clear a Portland pass less than three minutes later, netting an own goal. Harrison then capped the Portland scoring in the 78th minute, knocking in a free kick from 21 yards.
Goalkeepers Harrison and Cheryl Loveless shared the Portland shutout, with Loveless coming into the contest in the second half when injuries forced Harrison into the field lineup.
The Pilots improved to 2-3-1, while OSU dropped to 1-6-0. In the first game of the tournament, Washington beat San Jose State 2-1. Oklahoma State and Washington will play Sunday, Sept. 19 at 2 p.m. CT, while Portland and San Jose State will tangle at 4:15 p.m. CT
