Cowgirls Face Portland, Washington In Adidas/MetLife Tourney

The Week Ahead: Oklahoma State continues its stretch of seven road contests in eight games when the Cowgirls face Portland and Washington this weekend in the Adidas/MetLife Tournament in Portland, Ore. OSU will face the Pilots on Saturday, Sept. 18 at 4:15 p.m. CT before tackling the Huskies on Sunday, Sept. 19 at 2 p.m. CT.
Last Week for OSU: The Cowgirls lost a pair of non-conference matchups to Southwest Missouri State 4-0 (on the road) and North Texas 4-2 (at home) last week. Junior Andrea Larsen and freshman Kellie Williams scored their first goals of the season in the loss to the Lady Eagles last Sunday.
About Portland: Portland enters the tournament with a 1-3-1 ledger after falling to Nebraska 3-2 in overtime last Sunday. The Pilots advanced to the NCAA semifinals in 1998 where they lost to North Carolina 1-0 in overtime. Forward Susanna Heikari leads the squad in scoring with three goals and three assists while goalkeepers Angela Harrison and Cheryl Loveless have split time in goal with a combined 1.82 goals against average. Clive Charles is in his 10th year as head coach of the Pilots and has a 157-36-11 record during that span.
About Washington: Washington is 0-3 on the year after a 3-1 loss to No. 1 Santa Clara last Friday. The Huskies other two losses have come on the road against No. 10 Clemson 3-0 and SEC power Georgia 3-0. The Huskies lone goal this season was scored by sophomore forward Caroline Putz who was an All-Pac 10 selection a year ago. Head coach Lesle Gallimore is in her fifth season at Washington and has compiled a 54-46-3 record during that time, including four NCAA Tournament appearances (1994-96, 1998).
Homecoming Of Sorts: Senior Missy Moss and junior Andrea Larsen will be making a return to their native Portland/Washington area. Moss hails from nearby Vancouver, Wash., while Larsen attended Middletown High in Portland. The Cowgirls have had a few players from the area in the four-year history of the program as goalkeeper Chrystal Emerson (1996-98) attended Parkrose High in the Portland area while forward Melissa Wykes (1997-98) came from Auburn, Wash. Freshman Jackie Irwin is also from the area, having attended Enumclaw High in Enumclaw, Wash. Irwin has yet to see action this season.
Cowgirl Notes: Oklahoma State has been out scored 17-2 in its five losses ... Goalkeepers Laurel Catlett-King and Katharine Doud have split time in goal all five games this season ... Notable Portland soccer alums include goalkeeper Kasey Keller of the US Men's National Team and Shannon McMillan and Tiffany Milbrett of the 1999 World Cup and 1996 Olympic Champion US National Team ... Andrea Larsen is second all-time in points (39) and assists (13) and fourth all-time in the OSU goal scoring list with 13 goals ... The Cowgirls will meet Portland and Washington for the first time ever ... OSU is 1-12-2 in its last 15 games.
