Women's Soccer Continues Road Trip

The Week Ahead: Oklahoma State continues its five-game road trip this weekend when the Cowgirls face South Alabama and Alabama. OSU will look for its f1 p.m.irst win of the season when the team plays the Jaguars Friday at 7 p.m. The Cowgirls will close out the Alabama swing when they face the Crimson Tide Sunday at 1 p.m.
Last Week for OSU: The Cowgirls opened up the 1999 campaign with a pair of shutout losses to No. 15 Texas A&M, 4-0, and Texas, 2-0, last weekend. OSU managed just 11 shots in both games while the Aggies and Longhorns combined for 54. Freshmen goalkeepers Laurel Catlett-King and Katharine Doud split time in goal in both games, combining for 20 saves.
About South Alabama: South Alabama is 2-0 after beating the College of Charleston and South Carolina State last weekend. The Jaguars edged past the College of Charleston, 2-1, last Friday before throttling South Carolina State, 21-0, on Sunday. Newcomer Linda Larsson leads the Jags in scoring with five goals and three assists (13 points) with all of her points coming in the South Carolina State match. Goalkeeper Jennifer Greybeck has a 0.56 goals against average and has made 11 saves this season. Head coach Mike Varga is in his first season as coach at USA which finished 13-5 in 1998.
About Alabama: Alabama opened its 1999 campaign with a 2-1 win in overtime over No. 19 Vanderbilt last Friday. Danielle Watson was named Southeastern Conference Player of the Week after scoring both Crimson Tide goals against the Commodores, the second coming in the eighth minute of overtime. Alabama finished with a 13-7-1 ledger last season and advanced into the NCAA Tournament where they lost to Texas A&M, 3-0. The Tide is coached by Don Staley who has a 61-36-4 record in his six seasons in Tuscaloosa.
Careers "Born In The USA": Head coach Karen Hancock along with assistants Colin Carmichael and Luke Whittle will each be making returns to their old stomping grounds when the Cowgirls face South Alabama on Friday. Hancock guided the Jaguar program during the 1994 and 1995 seasons and boasted a record of 21-13-2 in Mobile before becoming Oklahoma State's first head coach in 1996. Carmichael who joined Hancock at OSU had a stellar playing career at USA where he was a four-year starter and an All-Sun Belt selection in 1992. Whittle is in his first season as an assistant at OSU after serving as an assistant for the Jaguar men's soccer team last season. Whittle also enjoyed a stellar soccer career at South Alabama where he was a three-year All-Sun Belt selection.
Cowgirl Notes: OSU and USA are tied in the all-time series 1-1 with USA winning the last meeting in 1997 1-0 ... Missy Moss is the lone remaining member of the OSU team who transferred from USA in 1996 (four total) ... Oklahoma State has never opened a season with three consecutive losses ... Sophomore Carrie Jones and junior Kellie White made successful returns to action last weekend after missing the 1998 season due to injury.
