STILLWATER, Okla. -- Oklahoma State is ranked third, and Charles Howell and Edward Loar are ranked in the individual top 10 in the MasterCard Collegiate Golf Rankings preseason men's poll.
The poll, administered by the College Golf Foundation in cooperation with the Golf Coaches Association of America, lists Howell, a junior from Augusta, Ga., as the nation's sixth-ranked player. Loar, a senior from Rockwall, Texas, is ranked ninth.
The Cowboys are third as a team behind top-ranked Clemson and No. 2 UNLV. Defending national champion Georgia is fourth.
The only other Big 12 Conference team ranked among the top 25 is Texas, which stands 12th in the team rankings. Longhorn sophomore David Gossett, the 1999 U.S. Amateur champion, is ranked third and is the only other Big 12 golfer in the individual top 25.
The Cowboys, who finished second at last year's NCAA Championship, open their 1999-2000 campaign Sept. 19-21 in the Ping-Golfweek Preview at Auburn, Ala. The tournament will be played at Grand National Golf Club, the site of the 2000 NCAA Men's Golf Championship.
