Women's Soccer Preps for 1999 Season

STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State women's soccer team had its first soccer practice of the year Monday afternoon in preparation for the 1999 soccer season.
Head coach Karen Hancock, starting her fourth season at the helm of the OSU program, has 13 newcomers and nine returnees who will vy for playing time this season.
The Cowgirls return seven starters from last year's squad which opened the season at 7-1-1 before injuries and close losses, including three in overtime, caused the team to finish with a 7-8-3 ledger.
The goalkeeper spot will be a position of note in preseason practice as two freshmen, Laurel Catlett-King (Hoover HS/Birmingham, Ala.) and Katharine Doud (Plano HS/Plano, Texas) will vie for the starting job, replacing three-year starter Chrystal Emerson who graduated last May.
Two veterans, Carrie Jones and Kellie White, returned to action after missing the 1998 campaign due to injury.
The Cowgirls will hold two-a-day practices this week, once in the afternoon and once in the evening.
OSU will have only one exhibition game, against Arkansas on Aug. 18 at 7 p.m. at home, before starting the regular season on the road against Texas A&M on Aug. 27 at 7 p.m.
