Wrestling Places Third at NCAA Championships

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Eric Guerrero became a three-time national champion and the Oklahoma State wrestling team finished third at the NCAA Championships in University Park, Pa.
Guerrero won the title with a 3-1 overtime win over Cody Sanderson of Iowa State. Guerrero became the 13th three-time NCAA champion in OSU history and the seventh four-time All-American in school history.
Iowa won their fifth consecutive team title by two team points 100.5-98.5 over Minnesota. The Gophers had three finalists, but only won one title. OSU was third with 84 points, Iowa State and Penn State tied for fourth with 78.5 points. Oklahoma was sixth with 73.5 points.
In the consolation round, Teague Moore ended his illustrious career with 113 wins and a third-place finish. He and Mark Smith become the 51st and 52nd three-time All-Americans in OSU history. He defeated Shane Valdez of Oklahoma, 2-0. Moore won that series between the long-time rivals, 8-6. His 112 wins rank 12th in school history.
Reggie Wright finished his first season as a Cowboy with a fourth-place finish. He lost both of his matches in the tournament to Adam Tirapelle of Illinois, including a 5-3 decision in the third-place match. He will be the Cowboys only returning All-American next season.
Mark Smith finished in fifth place. He won his fifth-place match over Leo Giel of Rider, 6-3. He is a three-time All-American.
