Guerrero, Smith Win at NWCA All-Star Dual

STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's Eric Guerrero and Mark Smith were victorious at the National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Star dual held Monday evening in Gallagher-Iba Arena.
The dual started off with an exhibition match as Oklahoma State's Brian Burrows won a 3-1 decision over Jody Marple of Central Oklahoma.
The second match of the dual saw the first upset of the evening as No. 2 Stephan Abas of Fresno State defeated top-ranked and defending national champion Teague Moore of Oklahoma State, 5-4. Moore was unbeaten prior to the match. The two have split four career meetings.
Two-time defending national champion Eric Guerrero won his 133-pound match in convincing fashion. He defeated Pat McNamara of Michigan State, 15-6.
Top-ranked Mark Angle of Clarion won a 6-4 overtime decision over Oklahoma's Michael Lightner in the 141-pound match. Top-ranked 149-pounder T.J. Williams of Iowa defeated second-ranked Oscar Wood of Oregon State, 11-5. It was a bad trip to Oklahoma for Wood as he lost a pair of duals over the weekend.
Casey Cunningham of Central Michigan won a hard-fought 3-0 win over Clint Musser of Penn State. Freshman Joe Heskett of Iowa State remained undefeated by beating top-ranked and previously undefeated Kirk White of Boise State, 5-3 in overtime.
Mark Smith soundly defeated No. 2 Leo Giel of Rider, 15-6, to remain unscathed on the season at 25-0. He and Guerrero were the only two wrestlers to get bonus-point wins in the dual.
The 184-pound match was one of the most exciting matches of the evening as undefeated Cael Sanderson of Iowa State remained that way by fighting off a late shot by Vertus Jones of West Virginia to win 6-5.
Zach Thompson of Iowa State defeated Sam Neider of Northwestern, 3-2, in the 197-pound match and Stephen Neal of Cal State-Bakersfield won his 68th straight match with a :25 second fall over John Henry Ward of Oklahoma in the heavyweight match.
