Cowboys lead after two rounds of Burns Intercollegiate

February 18, 1999
KANEOHE, Hawaii - Strong rounds by fourth-ranked UNLV and unranked SMU closed the gap, but the fifth-ranked Oklahoma State men's golf team remained atop the standings at the John Burns Intercollegiate after today's second round.
The Cowboys, who held a seven-stroke lead after one round of play, saw the lead trimmed to six strokes after charges from the Rebels and Mustangs, who moved up from fifth and eighth place, respectively, to a tie for second.
Juniors Edward Loar and Landry Mahan, who had been tied on top the individual standings after one round of play, dropped out of the lead but not out of contention. Loar is second at 9-under-par, one stroke behind UNLV's Michael Kirk. Mahan is tied for third, two strokes behind Loar, along with SMU freshman Nicholas Loar, the younger brother of OSU's fifth-ranked junior.
Second-ranked Charles Howell is tied for 13th place at 5-under 140, while freshmen Anders Hultman (33rd, 144) and Nick Seymour (59th, 148) rounded out the OSU lineup.
The tournament concludes with one 18-hole round Friday.
