STILLWATER, Okla.- Sophomore Josh Cruzan came up with the biggest win of his career when he upset 13th-ranked Waymon May to propel Oklahoma State to a 19-15 win over Bedlam rival Oklahoma.
Cruzan, who went into the dual with a 10-13 record, scored a takedown in overtime to garner his 3-1 win. Cruzan had beaten May nine times in high school but May had had more success as a collegian.
The win was the Cowboys 65th straight dual victory and seventh straight over the Sooners. The Cowboys improved to 20-0 overall and 4-0 in Big 12 Conference action. The fourth-ranked Sooners fell to 12-5-1 and 1-3-1 in loop action.
The dual, which started at 125 pounds, was close throughout as the two teams split the first six matches and the dual was tied at 9-9. The Cowboys then got three straight wins to garner the victory. Mark Smith had a major decision win over Michael Barger. Mark Muoz won an overtime match 3-1 over Tom Grossman and Cruzan.
John Henry Ward of the Sooners stopped Dave Anderton's consecutive fall streak at five with a fall of his own to make the final score 19-15.
The dual started with an upset as Teague Moore lost an 8-7 decision to the Sooners' Shane Valdez. Eric Guerrero continued his unbeaten season for the Cowboys with an 8-3 win over Dane Valdez. OU's Michael Lightner beat Jamill Kelly for the third straight time 4-0.
In the 149-pound match the Cowboys' Reggie Wright scored a late reverse to preserve a 6-3 win over freshman Jared Frayer. Jimmy Arias of the Cowboys then won a tiebreaker over David Kjeldgaard and Rod Jones defeated Ty Wilcox, 12-5.
