CLEVELAND - A pair of losses in the consolations have the Oklahoma State wrestling team scrambling for a national championship at the Convocation Center in Cleveland, Ohio.
Iowa and OSU will send three teams to the finals tomorrow night. Iowa has two wrestlers in the consolations and the Cowboys have one. The Hawkeyes lead the team race by five points 90 to 85.
Teague Moore got the Cowboys off to a great start when he defeated Eric Jurgens of Iowa, 6-4, with a late takedown. He will be in the finals for the first time in his career.
Eric Guerrero will gun for his second straight national title when he wrestles top seeded Eric Jetton of Wisconsin. Guerrero defeated longtime nemesis Dwight Hinson of Iowa State 2-1. Hinson had won four in a row over Guerrero and leads the all-time series 7-2.
"I have had the worst injury I have ever had this season," said Guerrero "I am just now getting healthy and I am wrestling like I have in the past. I have a great coach and he got me prepared for the match. He showed confidence in me, my teammates supported me and I have a great family who have also supported me."
Hardell Moore will gun for his first title after picking up an 8-1 win over Tivon Abel of Brown. Moore won his 100th career match with his semifinal win earlier in the day.
Mark Smith was the only Cowboy to lose as he dropped a 5-3 decision to Brandon Slay of Pennsylvania.
The Cowboys got a needed lift in the consolations as Jimmy Arias and Steven Schmidt both bounced back from losses in the quarterfinals with wins. Ben Lee dropped his consolation match to just miss All-American honors.
Schmidt and Arias lost his second consolation match and will wrestle for seventh place in the morning.
