Wrestlers Second at NCAA-Championships

CLEVELAND - Oklahoma State advanced six wrestlers to the quarterfinals, buttrail first-place Iowa by 4.5 points after the second round of the NCAA-Championships in Cleveland, Ohio.
The Cowboys are the only team with six wrestlers in the quarterfinals. Iowa and Penn State both have four in the quarters. The Cowboys have 10 wrestlersremaining and Iowa has eight.
Mark Smith gave the Cowboys a big lift with a fall at 167 pounds. He pinnedJason Webster of Cal State-Fullerton in 1:02. It was the Cowboys first fall ofthe tournament.
Teague Moore and Eric Guerrero got the Cowboys off to a good start in thenight session, as each won major decisions. Moore beat Sean Kim of Cal State-Fullerton and Guerrero defeated Matt Roth of Virginia, 11-0. Guerrero has notsurrendered a point in the tournament.
Top seeds Hardell Moore and Steven Schmidt each picked up wins.
The Cowboys split in a pair of Bedlam matches with Oklahoma. Jamill Kelly fellto the Sooners Michael Lightner, 7-3 in overtime. Jimmy Arias won his matchover the Sooners Rodney Jones, 3-2.
Pat Popolizio won his consolation match with a fall over Ken Haines of LockHaven. The fall was his team-leading sixth of the season.
