Women's Track Competes at the John Jacobs Invitational

NORMAN, Okla. - Oklahoma State's women's track team turned in an impressive performance at the John Jacobs Invitational here on Saturday.
Freshman Nancy Guillen's second-place finish was her best performance of the season. Her throw of 196 feet, 10 inches surpassed the automatic qualifying mark for the Outdoor National Championships by over two feet.
All-American Sherita Jackson doubled up on the afternoon, winning both the 100 meters and 200m dash. Jackson's time of 23.66 seconds was her best performance of the season, while her winning time of 11.72 in the 100m dash edged out Oklahoma's Staneshia Bell by eight-tenths of a second.
"I was very pleased with everyone's performances today," said OSU Head Coach Catrina Acosta. "In the next couple of weeks we are going to find out where our training has left our girls. We've got some stiff competition coming up."
Megan Robbins won for the second time in as many weeks in the pole vault with a jump of 12-0, while Melinda Jackson took home first-place honors in the triple jump with a distance of 40-11.
The distance events saw the Cowgirls' Alexandra Lindquist win the 800m in a time of 2:14.67, and Hanna Smedstad's time of 4:34.05 was good enough for a second-place finish.
The women's team will split next weekend when they travel to Ontario, Calif., for the Mt. SAC Relay and Fayetteville, Ark., for the Tyson Invitational.
