The Week Ahead: Oklahoma State (7-3-2; 1-1-2 Big 12) will hit the road for two crucial Big 12 matchups this weekend in Texas. The Cowgirls will look to snap a four-game winless streak when they face Texas Tech on Friday Oct. 16 at 4 p.m. OSU will then have its hands full when the tackle No. 18 Baylor on Sunday, Oct. 18 at 1 p.m.
Last Week: Midfielder Melissa Wykes goal with six minutes remaining in regulation, salvaged a 1-1 tie against Kansas last Friday. Oklahoma State played the final 22 minutes of the contest with only 10 players on the field caused by the red card ejection of defender Julie Harris. The tie kept the Cowgirls undefeated streak at home intact with a 7-0-1 mark dating back to Oct. 24, 1997.
The streak ended last Sunday, however, as Missouri knocked off OSU 3-2 in overtime, despite a furious second half rally by the Cowgirls. Oklahoma State forwards Missy Moss and Heather Hartstein scored goals in the last 20 minutes of regulation to send the game into overtime. Missouri scored at the 93:53 mark in OT, handing the Cowgirls their first conference loss of the season.
About Texas Tech: Texas Tech is 4-4-2 on the year and 1-2-1 in the Big 12. The Red Raiders are coming off a 1-0 win over Kansas last Monday in Oklahoma City. Texas Tech is led in scoring by forward Amy Rutstein who has eight goals and two assists (18 points) on the year.
Texas Tech holds a 2-0 series advantage over Oklahoma State and defeated the Cowgirls 3-0 last year in Stillwater.
About Baylor: Baylor is 9-3-1 overall and 3-0-1 in Big 12 action this season. The Bears are ranked No. 25 in the country and No. 3 in the Central Region. Baylor is coming off a 0-0 tie against Texas in Austin last Sunday. Forward Courtney Saunders leads the team in scoring with 10 goals and two assists (22 points). Goalkeeper Dawn Greathouse was named the Big 12 Player of the Week after recording two shutouts and currently boasts a conference leading 0.77 goals against average.
Baylor is 1-0-1 against Oklahoma State after shutting out the Cowgirls 2-0 last year in Stillwater.
Hartstein Heroics: Heather Hartstein, playing for only her third time this season, provided the spark for the Cowgirls second half comeback against Missouri last Sunday. Hartstein, a forward, played a role in both of OSU's goals in the loss. She assisted on Missy Moss' goal and scored the first goal of her career to send the game into overtime. Heading into the season, coach Karen Hancock believed Hartstein would provide a scoring touch upfront and when her number was called, the redshirt freshman delivered.
Cowgirl Notes: Oklahoma State's current string of four straight overtime games is a school record ... Melissa Wykes has scored a goal in eight of her last ten games and is ninth in the Big 12 in scoring with 17 points ... Goalkeeper Chrystal Emerson is fourth in the conference with a 1.10 goals against average. Oklahoma State is currently tied for fifth in the Big 12 with Texas (Top six adavnce into the post season tournament).
