The Week Ahead: Oklahoma State (7-5-2; 1-3-2 Big 12) will wind up its current four-game road swing with a pair of Big 12 matchups this weekend. The Cowgirls will look to snap a six-game winless streak when they face Iowa State on Friday, Oct. 23, at 4 p.m. OSU will then have its hands full on Sunday, Oct. 25, when the Cowgirls take on No. 10 Nebraska at 1 p.m.
Last Week: Oklahoma State extended its streak of consecutive overtime games to five against Texas Tech last Friday, but came out on the losing end by a 2-1 count. Both teams scored in the first half with OSU's goal coming at the 24:43 mark when Andrea Larsen took a cross feed by Melissa Wykes and tied the game at 1-1. The Red Raiders scored with less than five minutes remaining in the second overtime frame to hand the Cowgirls their second straight loss for the first time this season. OSU's suffered it first shutout of the season in a 3-0 loss to No. 18 Baylor last Sunday. It was the first time the Cowgirls had been blanked in 17 games, dating back to Oct. 12, 1997. Andi Lute led Oklahoma State offensively, recording three of the Cowgirls four shots on the day. The game also snapped the string of overtime games at five.
About Iowa State: Iowa State is 7-6-1 on the year and 2-4 in the Big 12. The Cyclones are coming off a 1-0 win over Kansas last Sunday in Lawrence, Kan. Iowa State is led in scoring by freshman Erica Florez who has eight goals and three assists (19 points) on the year. Iowa State holds a 2-0 series advantage over Oklahoma State and defeated the Cowgirls, 3-1, last year in Stillwater.
About Nebraska: Nebraska is 11-2-1 overall and 6-0 in Big 12 action this season. The Cornhuskers are ranked No. 10 in the country and No. 1 in the Central Region. Nebraska is riding a ten-game unbeaten streak after defeating Missouri, 3-1, last Sunday in Columbia, Mo. Forward Kim Engesser leads the team in scoring with 17 goals and three assists (37 points) and is fourth in the nation in goals per game (1.21). Nebraska is 2-0 against Oklahoma State and defeated the Cowgirls, 4-1, last season in Stillwater.
Cowgirl Notes: Oklahoma State's string of five straight overtime games is a school record ... Melissa Wykes has scored a point in nine of her last 12 games and leads the team in scoring with 18 points ... Andrea Larsen scored her first goal in Big 12 play in the loss to Texas Tech ... Goalkeeper Chrystal Emerson recorded a season-high 12 saves in the Red Raider game ... Emerson is fourth in the conference with a 1.27 goals against average ... OSU is 1-3-2 in overtime games this season ... Oklahoma State is currently eighth in the Big 12 (Top six advance into the post- season tournament).
